William Bucket is the father of Charlie Bucket. In the 1971 film, he is deceased. He is portrayed by Noah Taylor in the 2005 film.
In the book, musical, and 2005 film, however, he works at a local toothpaste factory, screwing the lids onto tubes, until machines are built to do the job for him, and he is laid off. In the film he later gets a job repairing the machines. William Bucket is the son of Grandpa George and Grandma Georgina and son-in-law of Grandpa Joe and Grandma Josephine, but in the film and stage adaptations. He is married to Mrs. Bucket. He lives in "the Bucket shack" with his extended family, and appears to be their sole provider.
