Mrs. Kate Honey was Jennifer Honey's mother, Dr. Magnus Honey's wife, Miss Trunchbull's stepsister and adoptive grandmother of Matilda Wormwood. She died when Miss Honey was only two years old. It’s not revealed in the novel or the film how she died. In the musical it's revealed that Kate Honey died from her injuries in a circus accident. The only time she is mentioned in both the novel and film is when Miss Honey tells Matilda that she died when Miss Honey was 2-years-old. Then, suddenly her father died. Jennifer says the cops decided Magnus killed himself but when Matilda says she doesn't think that was the case Miss Honey agreed. Implying they both think Trunchbull did it.
